As Irish stride out to play the game of their lives at the Ryder Cup, Montgomerie aims to match The K Club 2006

IRELAND’S CREAM of the golfing crop will be at the heart of a European Ryder Cup team tipped to regain the trophy it won soundly at The K Club in 2006.

In selecting “Ironman” Graham McDowell, above left, and “Superkid” Rory McIlroy, above right, many believe captain Colin Montgomerie has Europe’s new “Seve and Olly” show on his side. [Seve Ballasteros and Jose Maria Olazabal]
The last two times the Irish pair – dubbed the Supermacs – played fourball together at the 2009 World Cup they averaged 11 under par for the two rounds.
Telegraph golf pundit Mark Reason says: “That’s just how it was for Seve and Olly, the greatest ever Ryder Cup partnership. They played 15 matches together, won 11, halved twice and lost twice. They also loved the big pressure roles.”
“It gives you added pressure because you want to put blue on the board early. I enjoy playing that role. G-Mac and I bring the best out of each other,” says McIlory.

Back at The K Club – hallowed ground of the 2006 Ryder Cup where the European team putted home to victory – Firstlight The K Club is having celebrations of its own after winning “best” golf development in Europe.

Have you discovered Ireland’s number one golf development?

Just 30 minutes from Dublin airport in the heart of glorious Kildare countryside, Firstlight The K Club is Europe’s leading private residents’ club – as voted by the International Property Awards 2010.
The luxury, gated development has apartments and homes for sale in one-eighth titled interests and come with family residential membership at one of the most stunning and historic country estates in Ireland.
Ø  Green fees to the same Arnold Palmer Ryder Cup that witnessed a European victory in 2006 are part of family residential membership
Ø  Play with PGA golf pro Michael Dixon of the Michael Dixon School of Golf when you book yourself on a Discovery Trip to see what Ireland’s No1 golf and spa estate has to offer.
Ø  Fishing, clay-pigeon shooting, horse-riding and endless family activities.
Ø  International holiday exchange program as part of your annual six weeks
Ø Prices of fractional real estate start from €131,500 per titled interest.

Rory for 2010 Ryder Cup team – but which of the ‘wild cards’ will Montgomery pick?

More predictions from founder of The Michael Dixon School of Golf

WITH SEVEN of the top 12 golfers in the world on the European team, captain Colin Montgomery will have a challenge picking the next best from a brilliant line-up.

These are the views of Michael Dixon, founder of The Mi chael Dixon School of Golf at The K Club in Ireland – home of the 2006 Ryder Cup.

“It’s only a matter of time before Rory McIlroy becomes a world number one. Other form European players include Lee Westwood – currently number 3 in the world after finishing second in the British Open,” says Dixon, part of 2006 K Club support team for the Ryder Cup in 2006.

But, he added: “One of Montgomery’s hardest parts of being captain is who his three wild card picks are going to be. You have the likes of Padraig Harrington, Sergio Garcia, Henrik Stenson, Justin Rose, Edoardo Molinari, Oliver Wilson, Alvaro Quiros and Ross Fisher all being on the border of the team, and at the minute looking like they will need a wild card pick.
“Graeme McDowell who won the US Open and Welsh Open at Celtic Manor will be a huge plus for the Europeans. Luke Donald has won on the European tour this year. Ian Poulter winning his first World Championship Match play,” said Dixon.
“Paul Casey looking back to his best after his injury after a third place finish in the British Open Championship and the young German machine, Martin Kaymer, playing his way into the world’s top 12. This just scratches the surface of the strength and depth in the 2010 Ryder Cup side.
Predicting that Montgomery will be the most successful Ryder Cup captain of all time, Dixon noted he also has talent on his side. “As it currently stands, there’s not a player in the running for a place outside the world’s top 50. Never has the European team looked so strong going into a Ryder Cup.”

Dixon’s predictions for the 2010 Ryder Cup

THE EUROPEAN Ryder Cup team is in such good form it will be as classy as a “Rolls Royce” says top golf pro at the K Club, Michael Dixon.

The PGA golf coach, who has just launched The Michael Dixon School of Golf at the prestigious K Club in Ireland, is also predicting that Colin Montgomery will reign supreme at the tournament this year.
Dixon was part of the K Club’s support staff when Tiger Woods played in the 2006 Ryder Cup at The K Club and says: “’King’ Colin Montgomery, Europe’s Ryder Cup captain. I feel Colin Montgomery will go down in history as being one of the best Ryder Cup captains of all time.
“Since 1991, Colin has played on eight Ryder Cups, winning five of these and still holds the Ryder Cup record as being the biggest point-scorer in the singles matches on the Sunday.
“He’s been on winning teams under captains Bernard Gallagher, Seve Ballesteros, Mark James, Bernhard Langer, Sam Torrance OBE and Ian Woosnam. I feel if he took a little from each of the victorious captains, plus his own input of how best to manage Europe, we have a very, very good chance of winning the cup back.
“Montgomery is quoted as saying, ‘this will be the proudest moment of my career’. He said that the first point would be won in the opening speeches. This is the attention to detail that, for me, means Montgomery will leave no stone unturned and another reason why they will have the cup.”

About the 2010 Ryder Cup course at Celtic Manor

Looking more closely at the Celtic Manor course, where this year’s Ryder Cup will take place from Oct 1-3, Dixon said he doesn’t envy the players.
“At 7,493 yards, par 71, this is going to play a monster of a course in October in Wales. The course at Celtic Manor has been specifically designed for the Ryder Cup with great risk and reward holes, this being a very important component in the Ryder Cup.
“There is water in play on nine of the 18 holes. The 18th hole is looking like it will provide serious drama. Players must decide whether to take on the pond for the second shot or lay up leaving a downhill pitch onto an uphill green – not one that I would fancy.
“An added advantage for the European side will be the weather and slower greens than what the American’s will be used to on a weekly basis.”
NEXT WEEK: Dixon’s predictions for the new No1 in golf

Families influence Firstlight The K Club holiday choices

When Firstlight The K Club scoured the globe for great family holiday destinations for our private residents’ club, we must admit we had our own kids in mind.
We knew that other parents would have the same concerns as us – entertainment for toddlers and teens, great sports and dining facilities, as well as evening entertainment and concierge for when you want someone else to take over the chores.
So if your decision in choosing a five-star family resort is similar to ours then you’ll know that your five star holiday in Ireland is replicated at any of our 40 holiday locations.
When Firstlight The K Club, the fractional ownership specialist, looked for Spanish locations for our international holiday exchange program, we also looked at guest reviews based on past experiences – this helped in our decision to choose three.
Ø  The Marriott Club’s Son Antem apartments and villas in Majorca is in a region that’s growing in popularity with Irish and British travelers. The resort offers fantastic facilities including golf and spa. There is a pool for every small group of villas, the staff are friendly and they all speak good English.
Ø  Marriott’s Playa Andaluza beach resort in Estepona is pure five star luxury and close to “millionaires’ paradise” Puerto Banus. Among the reviews you’ll find on Trip Advisor are “absolutely terrific” and “high standards are in full force”.
Ø  Meanwhile, the Marriott’s Marbella Beach Resort in the heart of the Costa del Sol is set among some of south Spain’s most historic sights and a short drive to the beach at popular Puerto Banus.

Firstlight K Club is a private residents’ club situated at Ireland’s top golf and spa resort, The K Club, Kildare. Leading media title praises Firstlight The K Club’s Facebook site

The No1 media title for the overseas property market, OPP, has commended Firstlight The K Club’s use of social media to educate buyers in shared ownership properties. The No1 UK title used Firstlight The K Club as a case study to show the industry how social media informs property buyers who still want answers about fractional real estate.

Overseas Property Professional Magazine highlighted the work of Ireland’s top private residence club at The K Club, Kildare, in educating consumers how to buy shared ownership homes and having their own titled interest in a private residence club.

Firstlight The K Club’s golf property for sale is at one of the most prestigious addresses in Ireland. The famous K Club was host to the Ryder Cup in 2006 and is still held as a benchmark for hosting one of the most famous sports tournaments in the world.

OPP wrote: “Firstlight The K Club was one of the early adopters to social media in the fractional ownership industry. The Irish developer uses this business tool – as it should be used – to talk directly with current buyers and potential customers via Twitter and Facebook.

“Used like this, social media can reach potential buyers without giving them a hard sell about your product.”

Project director Catherine Monaghan added: “Absolutely – Firstlight The K Club is not about the hard sell and we saw a great opportunity in social media to prove this. We’re happy to answer buyers’ questions and inform them about the lifestyle that comes with a titled interest in one of the most beautiful golf and spa resorts in Ireland.”

Facebook now has 500million active users worldwide, with a growing popularity of people aged 30-plus using social media sites.

California dreaming of Ireland as euro sparks great travel deals!

IRELAND has claimed the top spot of European destinations by the respected newspaper USA Today, which has told its readers to consider Ireland for their summer getaway in 2010.

You’ll be home from home at the Marriott Desert Springs with its own Arnold Palmer course
The euro exchange rate has made Dublin cheaper for US travellers, says writer Christine Sarkis, who told readers: “Even if you don’t find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, you may still be able to afford an Ireland vacation this summer.”
Figures from Ireland’s Central Statistics Office show that 1.08 million overseas tourists came in the first quarter of 2010 – and Sarkis notes that Dublin is now a top affordable eurozone destination for arts and culture. And The K Club is just one example.
The K Club for arts and wine
The paintings of Ireland’s most celebrated artist Jack B Yeats adorn the walls ofThe K Club, while the cellar holds one of Ireland’s largest collections of fine Bordeaux wine. The K Club is set in 550 acres of breathtaking countryside just 30 minutes from Dublin. Golf-loving US visitors will remember this beautiful resort played host to the 2006 Ryder Cup and has one mile of Dublin’s famous River Liffey running through it.
The K Club is now also home to a private residence club, Firstlight The K Club. These luxury, shared ownership apartments and family homes are sold in one-eighth titled interests and overlook the 18th hole of the Smurfit course.
Firstlight The K Club invites you and your family to come for a one or two-nightDiscovery Trip where you’ll stay in one of these five-star residences and experience the same relaxed lifestyle that residents enjoy.
